Biosketch of Prof Harri Vainio
Professor Harri Vainio, M.D., Ph.D., is a researcher in public health, in particular occupational health and safety, specializing in risk assessment and management. His expertise covers aspects of environmental and occupational toxicology, risk assessment, and biomarker epidemiology. He currently serves as Dean of the Faculty of Public Health and as Professor in Environmental and Occupational Health in Kuwait University. Prior to joining Kuwait University, Dr. Vainio was the Director General of the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health (FIOH), Helsinki, Finland for the years 2003-2015. From 1983 until 2003, Dr Vainio served the WHO’s International Agency for Research on Cancer in different positions: the IARC Monographs and the Handbooks on Cancer Prevention – programs. Dr. Vainio is the author of over 600 research reports and book chapters covering Toxicology, Molecular epidemiology, risk assessment, preventive oncology, and preventive medicine.

Dr ElFeky has working experience in WHO/EMRO in healthy settings (Healthy Cities, Age-Friendly Cities, Healthy Schools, Healthy Workplaces, Healthy Villages and Healthy Markets). Dr ElFeky has also experience in research, Primary and Community Health Care.
Dr ElFeky participated in introducing, monitoring and evaluation of Healthy Cities Programme in countries of the Region including Bahrain, Lebanon, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Tunisia and UAE.
In addition, Dr ElFeky participated in implementing Urban Health Equity Assessment and Response Tool (Urban HEART) in Egypt, Morocco, Jordan, Sudan and Tunisia. Dr ElFeky participated also in many capacity building activities related to bioethics, research methodology, and implementation research. Dr ElFeky has many publications in the field of research, Healthy Cities, planning effective communication strategies, community health workers, home health care for elderly, community-based disaster risk reduction, WHO collaborating centres, and Bioethics.

Dr. Nazar Abdelrahim Mohamed Elfaki

Dr. Elfaki (Sudanese nationality and medical doctor by profession) is currently an adviser for policies, health systems development, and human resources planning in the Ministry of Health, Sultanate of Oman. He has more than 20 years of national and international experience in health system development, human resources strategic planning and projections, primary health care and community-based development approaches (including healthy cities), and emergency preparedness and response. He worked previously with the World Health Organization as a medical officer and held many short assignments in Morocco, Afghanistan, Iraq, Jordan, Egypt, Syria, Somalia, Iran, Lebanon, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain. He has academic experience as a lecturer for MPH students in several academic institutes. In addition, he published several papers in issues pertinent to human resources and healthy community-based initiatives.

Maher Abdel Karim
As a GIS expert, and project manager working for the Public Authority for Civil Information (PACI) in Kuwait, Maher is working in the last 20 years in GIS field. He worked in multiple disciplines in many organizations which vary from esri distributors, private consultancy, and government organizations. Maher worked under the umbrella of international donors support for different countries including Jordan, Yemen, Egypt, and Syria.
Maher is taking care of many innovative projects for PACI which include the implementation of Big Data, and machine learning projects the empower the GIS services like Kuwait Finder, Lidar, and StreetView projects and others provided by PACI.
Maher has a GISP, PMI-PMP, PMI-RMP, PMI-PBA, and esri enterprise system design associate professional certificates.
